What we check
Wind speed
Safe below 25 mph
Most commercial drones are rated to operate safely below 25 mph. Above this, flight stability and image quality are both affected.
Wind gusts
Safe below 30 mph
Gusts are more dangerous than sustained wind as they cause sudden attitude changes. We flag gusts above 30 mph as unsuitable.
Precipitation
Dry conditions only
Most survey drones are not waterproof. Any rain — even light drizzle — risks sensor damage and is considered unsuitable.
Visibility
Min 1.5km for VLOS
CAA rules require visual line of sight to be maintained at all times. Fog, haze, or low cloud can make legal operation impossible.
Data is sourced from Open-Meteo and is provided for planning purposes only. Always verify conditions immediately before flight and conduct a full site risk assessment. As a CAA-authorised operator, Altitude Drone Surveying manages all pre-flight checks and risk assessments on every job — you do not need to do this yourself.
